Emanuel and the Fear - Listen - 4,1/10

J'ai comme l'impression qu'on va nous annoncer ce groupe comme une des next "big things". Ils sont onze musiciens 'a formation classique' de Brooklyn (ben tins!). Et l'emballage cadeau est tout prêt, bien coloré et attirant : With influences that swing as far off as Beethoven, Rachmanicoff and Glass and all the way back to their peers such as Arcade Fire, Bright Eyes, Daft Punk, and Sufjan Stevens, Emanuel and the Fear exploits its relentless talent and eclectic adaptability in a culmination of epic and theatrical proportions with its new album. Et puis, on te donne avec qui ils ont joué les onze musiciens : Sufjan Stevens, The National, Akron/Family, and Bryan Scary & the Shredding Tears. On te rappelle aussi qu'ils avaient fait un EP qui avait un peu buzzé...


Bon, je sais pas vous, mais, moi, je lis ça, je fonce. Ce que j'ai fait...


Et bien, c'est pataud, lourdaud et long. On attendait de la force, on se retrouve avec au mieux du sous Jethro Tull ou du médiocre ELO. On attendait du lyrisme (Arcade Fire oblige!), on cherche toujours. Certes, il y a beaucoup de vent, par contre, on cherche encore le moindre souffle. Pour ne rien arranger, les couches de violons et piano (est-on si loin de Tom Jones?) donnent l'impression qu'on a affaire à une de ces comédies qui font les bons jours de la variété française depuis trop longtemps...


Alors, comme ils se revendiquent de Rachmanicoff (Coff, sic), j'offre un chocotoff à qui m'explique ce qu'il en pense!


Assez étonnamment, The Guardian marche, reprenant telles quelles les influences sauf qu'ils corrigent tout de même le Rachmaninoff!
