Synthés soft, piano nostalgique, voix chaude mais fuyante, The Keychain Collection demande une mise en condition et en situation. Quand on y est, plus guère de nécessité à vouloir résister ; engoncé dans l'ouate, ce n'est pas le plus triste des états!
Will Ozanne s'est d'abord fait connaître par un EP In Your Gut Like A Knife qui a attiré l'attention de l'excellent label de Gilles Peterson (c'est Ghospoet qui a servi de rampe de lancement) : Breeding surreal headphone-friendly landscapes, he struck a peculiar and delicate balance between otherworldly and familiarity, at times sneaking a sly glance towards the dancefloor but mostly conjuring a sense of longing and rye melancholy.
Wil explique : "I love the ambience of recorded piano against harder textures. It’s an idea I experimented with when recording the album. An added bonus when recording live piano is all the miscellaneous sounds that get picked by the mic. Anything from the creaking of the chair I’m sitting on, to my mum hoovering in the other room. It all gets picked up and hidden in the final mix.”
